Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa

Project Type: Splash Pad

Location: Denarau Island, Fiji Islands

Located on Denarau Island, Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa is a serene tropical vacation destination in the heart of Fiji.

The Fiji Airways logo, known as the Teteva, is a symbol inspired by traditional Fijian Masi artwork and represents the spirit of Fiji and its national carrier. The Teteva's elements, crafted by Fijian Masi artist Makereta Matemosi, hold specific meanings:

  • The Circle: Represents the interconnection of people and place, as Fiji Airways connects people to the island.

  • The Four Crosses in the Corners: Symbolize the airline's role in connecting people to Fiji and its cultural heritage.

  • The Inner Circle: Reflects the Fijian people's spiritual values, highlighting their caring nature and community spirit.

  • The Diamond: Represents the love and pride that Fijians have for their nation.

  • The Sixteen Petals: Symbolize the Fijian people working together as a community to create a stronger nation.

  • The Smaller Circle Inside: Represents the warm, welcoming nature of Fijians to all visitors.

In essence, the Teteva is a visual representation of Fijian culture and values. Fiji Airways’ use of it shows their commitment to connecting people and promoting tourism within the island nation.

Prior to Life Floor, the children’s splash pad at the Niu Beach Club amenity was surfaced with EPDM rubber. The EPDM was worn and patchy in some areas, so the owner chose Life Floor’s tiles to improve both safety as well as the space’s overall aesthetic.

Melbourne-based Life Floor Certified Installer, Maurer Construction Tiling, travelled to Fiji and expertly completed all aspects of the installation from base preparation to the meticulous replication of the symbol. The Maurer Construction Tiling team hand-cut all components of the Teteva and ensured respectful care was shown for this meaningful cultural icon.
